I use that same technique, with different size screws, to locate the holes for the interior visors in the roof-cardboard. Perfect holes/cuts every time.
If it tight/tough screwing in/out the screws, you can cut a slot (Dremel tool) in the pointed-head and use a small flat-blade screwdriver.
I am pleased to see how much money I saved by making my own (in about 10 minutes of unskilled work).
