Is this your COE? Updrafts are different than regular carbs and are very simple to work on.
If you haven't pulled the carb off the truck before, it's probably full of dirt or crap from years of accumulation. Before diagnosing carb problems your best bet is to rebuild it and start from there.
When reinstalling be sure to put a fuel filter inline to the carb.
