47, this is a good quest and I hope you get some good feedback. I have a head unit in the glovebox but would love to have something easier in the place where it was meant to be. I'm sure you are aware of the expensive options. I would be hesitant to cut a hole for the antenna, I have heard that you can mount an antenna horizontally under the frame with good reception results.
