But I have seen and mounted antenna under the hood with some success. Used an existing bolt from the hinge to mount and a zip tie to Stabilize the tip at the center seam. Push the wire through an existing hole in the fire wall and done. Works in town and where reception is good. No one can see it and no holes in the truck. Under the running boards is a new idea to me but might work just fine.
