If the carb that is on it is original it would make sense to get it up and running and driving before you start changing things. If you have an original oil bath air cleaner you will want to drain the oil out of it, clean and dry it and put new oil in. You should also take the mesh/screen out and clean it and then put some light weight oil on it also.
