My first semi was a gas burner that I bought in March of 1964. There were weeks I drove as much as 3000 miles. I didn't spend that much time fixing things. About the only thing that was a recurring thing was the rubbing block on the points wearing down, but a small file and an allen wrench fixed that in a couple of minutes. And I did have to put brushes in the generator on the side of the road quite often. Electronic ignition and an alternator will fix both these problems.
