The only negative is that you won’t have as good as resolution as you would if you had one that was calibrated for 6v.
Now if you were going in the other direction and applied 12v to a meter move that was calibrated to 6v you would peg the meter and take a good chance of bending the needle. Just compare the idea to the range switch on a multimeters. Denny Graham Sandwich, IL
