I'm wanting to put a voltmeter in the car but all I can find are 12v voltmeters. Is there a quick & simple way to convert a 12v voltmeter to 6v?

Do the 12 volt meters have graduations around the 6 volt mark? | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | Yeah Richard, as long as it’s a D’Arsonval meter movement and not a digital meter a 12v meter should work just fine. The only negative is that you won’t have as good as resolution as you would if you had one that was calibrated for 6v.
Now if you were going in the other direction and applied 12v to a meter move that was calibrated to 6v you would peg the meter and take a good chance of bending the needle. Just compare the idea to the range switch on a multimeters. Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

Industreal supply like Grainger has square analog panel meters 0-15vdc made by Simpson but they are real pricy. If all you want to do is take a sampling of the output voltage then I'd opt for a cheap digital miltimeter. Other wise if you're looking for a permenent setup it looks like you're in for a lot of searching and a place to spend a big buck if you do find one.
