Cowboy, unless you have some bolts laying around just go to the hardware and get you some 5/16, 3/8, ect and have them on hand. Oh and by the way get a couple that have different thread such as 13 tpi or 16tpi
As some previous owner may have used what he had and "made it work" you just never know. I also keep the air hose handy to blow out the holes and also the tap and die set so that once I determine the size I can "clean out" the threads......gosh, don't we love it!!
...one thing I have used a LOT on my restorations is the little plastic "guage" you can get at most places, northern tool, lowes, harbor freight. You can check a bolt or screw for the threads per inch or the actual size. I think they now cost about $3 bucks and well worth it.
IF you have an ace hardware close by its pretty cheap to just buy a box of 50 as it is a few...... and a helluva lot cheaper than buying them at lowes!!!
