with the plugs out there would be no compression so you wouldn't feel any thing unusual from that point. if push rod was already bent prior to you aquiring the truck or from when you first got it to start it wouldn't make full contact with rocker arm and you may not feel any resistance. You need to remove valve cover to actually see everythings turning. Wish I was close by you need someone who understands these engines a little bit, to crank while you check things on the engine such as spark. Your Boys are obviuosly enthusiastic but don't yet understand how the stomp starter engagement works.
