Jim, I understand your situation as mine was pretty well stripped at one time or another, pieced back together with what worked and so it went.
After trying to figure it all out I decided to not worry about "originality" as I was doing some modifications on my vehicle.
First thing I did was go to Ace Hardware and got me handful of bolts. 1/4" 5/16' 3/8'...all of them 1" long and also one each in fine thread and coarse thread. You may as well get some some 1/4" screws. A tapered and oval head. Next get you one of those plastic bolt guages, about $2, so you can check a bolt your not sure of to see what's the size and thread pitch. It'll make trips to Ace Hardware a lot less troublesome. All in all you may spend 5 or 6 bucks.
As I assembled mine I decided how long I wanted the bolts. No need in having bolt sticking out the back side an inch for you to rip the back side of your hand off.
Doing this made my life, and assembly a lot easier. On the 5/16 bolts and 3/8" I ended up just buying a small box of them.
(Sometime ago I had bought me a "boltbin" with about 72 cubby holes. Its worth the money and lots cheaper to buy by the box and dump them in if you can) Just an idea.
Good Luck.
