Not much info to go on here, prolly need to figure out what you have first. Alternators seem to be the recharge instrument of choice but I used generators for years without complaint. Always had small radios and used a 12v generator when in the City. Alternators of course recharge at idle and generators only at rpm. Generators however can recharge a dead battery and alternators can't.
