I am interested in reading the replies and recommendations you get on this one but I have no advice. However, you might want to add the following information so that those in the know have a little more to work with:
1. Is there a 6v or 12v system now in your truck?
2. What is the power draw of a nice sound system (presumably a 12v system)? Does nice mean powerful (thump . . . thump . . thump)?
At the minimum, you might find that a standard 6v or 12v generator might not recharge your battery in city driving if you have a nice (powerful?) sound system. Also, if you have a 6v electrical system in your truck, you will need good advice on a voltage converter.
Perhaps the person you spoke with was suggesting that you would have to change your system to 12v and might as well go with a 12v alternator?
