I am in the process of doing this right now. I bought a Dana 60 from Grigg and have been working on it. The left axle housing can be shortened by three inches or so. Moser will cut the axle, machine new splines, and put a clip groove in the axle for 65 bucks (not counting shipping) This will move the pinion almost the centerline of the vehicle. What you will need to deal with is cutting and fitting shock brackets, shortening the axle tube, deal with spring mounts, work the the emegrency brake cables and brake lines. If you are not into machining, welding, and general mechanic work, you might have your hands full going this approach. My 2 cents
