The '50 and up powerglide cars had 3.55 gears, but if you wanted to keep the 6 lug pattern for swapping into a truck you had to use '48 or earlier axles and housing with the 3.55 center section.
There is a
tech tip on this. It only applies to '46 or older 1/2 ton.
