Congrats on the bolt. Sounds like speedo cable binding, assuming you fully lubed it. Check the path and sheath for kinks. I bet you are in for a carb adjust/rebuild, judging by the coast-in. I have a 235 with original gearing. I don't go over ~50mph. I base it on engine rev by ear, since I don't have a tach.
I'm sure you'll get lots of advice regarding brakes and starter.
