Sometimes I put a rubber "O" on the ferrule on the inside, and on the outside where it pulls up against the paint. Sometimes its decent but I have yet to install one that I've been happy with. Ugh.
The original I took out of a door quite a few years ago did not have any crimp to it at all. It was actually in a "cone" shape or maybe I should say "flared" shape and was tight as a bango string. Man, I wish I could get one that tight!
Maybe I'll have to try your method next time or at least some version of it. Those ferrules keep getting more costly each time. | | |
