I didn't want to spend the money on the tool to install new ferrules, so I made a tool from a piece of 9/16" all-thread, a couple of nuts, and some washers. I milled a concave area around the base of one nut (on the lathe) that would make the proper crimp on the inside of the ferrule. Another nut was threaded onto the all-thread followed by a heavy washer and then a rubber washer to protect the finish of the outer side of the ferrule. The all-thread was passed thru the ferrule into the door. Then the nut with the concave cut was attached to the inside of the all-thread. The nuts were tightened, and the proper crimp was placed on the inside of the ferrule. It worked well,and cost nothing.
