Yes, but it's a little difficult to get a jumper cable connected to the start terminal and the connector between the solenoid and the starter motor without getting some dramatic fireworks. I usually clamp a couple of 1-foot pieces of #10 wire into the jumper cables to test the solenoid operation without running the armature.
