Today I decided to try the repaired starter and to my surprise, the problem is worse. Before, I got a loud buzzing about a third of the time, a grinding sound a third of the time, and a successful start a third of the time. Now, all I get is the loud buzzing. I checked the connections and they are all tight. I'm beginning to think it might be what was posted here earlier, that the linkage/fork connection between the solenoid and the pinion gear might be bad. This weekend I have the joy of taking it out again. I just wanted to show you guys a picture of how it's wired. This is how it was when I got it, so I just put it back the way it was.
