Kurt, I would suggest getting your cam reground.
Your 53 cam is a small journal cam, same cam as the 216, but it has flat spots on it to clear the longer stroke of the 235 rods. It is the same cam blank used from 1941-early 54 235.
You can get any of the 1941-early 54 235 cams reground as a hydraulic cam.
