If your distributor is installed 180 deg off, the timing check will show it as being correct. If this is the case you could just re-install the wires on the cap to correct it. With the valve cover off on the #1 side, you should see that as you rotate through where #1 should fire, the valves on that cylinder should remain absolutely still. If they move, it is not set up correctly.
