Gregg, some clarification is always in order...so, I realize the 55 1st had open driveshaft and I should have mentioned that I did away with my torque tube and installed a mid 50's pumpkin so the torque tube spline issue was not a factor.

mobileortho, I thought about drilling a new hole myself but another concerned bolter talked me out of it as the springs are probably "stressed" over the years and another hole may be just the place the spring would crack or break into.

...allow me to make one more comment about centering and "how it looks". When I moved my rearend "back" the driver side just never did "look right". I ask everyone that came into my shop to give me their opinion on how the rear wheels looked in the fender openings. At least 80-90% said the driver side needed to "go forward". I expected this as all my various measurements said it needed to go forward 5/8" inch. Well, I welded a plate on the bottom of the lowering blocks and drilled on hole in the center for the passenger side and then drilled one on the drivers side 5/8" toward the front. BINGO!! So, I ask folks who came by the shop how it looked...BUT those had not seen it before I moved it. ALL of their responses were "looks good to me". So, if most of them could "see" the 5/8" difference it only confirmed what I suspected.
In the end, center them where they suit you but to a lot of us it does make a difference.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile
