When you disconnect the vacuum advance, plug the vacuum line so as not to lean out the mixture. I'm cheaper than Wrenchbender Ret. and don't own a timing light. I just eyeball the timing for initial startup, then time for optimum performance. Of course my stovebolt six has low enough compression that it won't ping if I overadvance, it just kicks back against the starter.
