Well, Donf, our blocks must've come from the same place because I can't find any casting no.s either. I think the no. is supposed to be just above the starter location but mine says something like CON 54 A. I did decode my engine id# somewhat and so here's a little info for you:
the F54X tells you it was made in Flint, MI, it is a '54 235 block, the X means a standard shift but that's about all I can come up with. Hope this helps a little.
