There is a whole bunch of types of stainless, like 50 or more categories, and 316 stainless is one of the most corrosion resistant, and commonly available stainless. I know this because I have been dealing with it for the last six months at work. (pain in the ###) I don't know if I would use stainless for anything requiring strength or safety such as frame members, it really isn't all that strong.
