That is exactly what I did. I even put some stainless on the panel and then decided they just didn't look good so I went with painted.... and the good thing is we can touch them up easy and keep them looking good.
...and yes, the good stainless is not cheap. I had some stainless that would not even stick in one of the magnetic parts tray. Those I don't need!
