my 46 1/2 ton is a closed driveline.
I found it easier to pull the engine unbolting it from the trans and taking it out with the bellhousing attached, a lot easier to get the clutch,flywheel and bellhousing off while its hanging on the hoist.
You can always pull the trans afterwards and bolt it onto the engine when it comes time to put it back in, if you don't like struggling to get the input shaft lined up if your by yourself.
