You can remove the front retainer & cut it with a hacksaw. The best way to grind the splines is get the clutch disc you are going to use, slid it on the shaft till it stops & mark it. Then grind the splines about 1/2 in & test it with the disc. That is better then putting in the trans. & finding it still hangs up.
