Turn the key on and see if a bulb will light when grounded and touching the coil + terminal. Here's a 1955 wiring diagram that should be close enough. http://chevy.tocmp.com/1955truck2shop/55ctsm1202.htm Try to post in the electrical forum for this stuff and going thru the archives there should help you get every wire in it's place.
