Sounds like somethings wired wrong, although I can't see what it would be right now.

To check I would run a fresh wire from the coil to the battery, remove the existing one that came from the ignition switch. A wire with with alligator clips is fine. Be sure you still have the wire already from coil to distributor. Other than plug wires you'd need nothing else to see if it'll run.
If it will run when "hot wired" as described above you're then one step closer.
