I put power steering on my 52 1/2ton panel. To do this you have to lean the shock towards the back. SO, I figured if I did one side I may as well do both. By doing this you just switch the bottom shock bracket from side to side so that they are leaning/pointing in the right direction. Then I used my angle finder and found they were angled toward the front at 60 degree angle. (if I remember correctly) I then mounted the shock in the lower bracket and lightly tighten it. Next I installed the top bracket, the one I had drilled the rivets out of, and tighten it lightly. Next lean the shock back 60 degrees, made sure the top mount looked right on the chassis and then marked and drilled holes. Use grade 8 bolts and tighten it up.
I am not an engineer and do not know if the rear leaning shocks needed the same, or more, than it did leaning toward the front but I figure the "action" of the axle coming up would be the same force and the shockes mounted the same angle towards the back would work just as well. I haven't drove my panel yet but don't think there will be a problem. | | |
