I prefer straight out the back myself, or behind the rear wheel. I would keep it farther away from my ears. You still get the sound. Just not so close. These days I would go with some real mufflers instead of glass packs. They make some real nice ones that sound good and perform well. Glass pack will stay on forever, but the insides don't last.
