The problem with exhausts in front of rear wheels is noise, plus if you want to work on the engine when its idling in the garage you will get gassed out pretty quick. I've got a '62 C-10 with the spare in the original spot and dual exchausts out the back that do not rattle or hit any part of the frame. It can be done.
