Thanks everyone. Stuart, I believe I'll take the pump off and test the suction and feel for the cam lever to be sure. Now that I've thought about it, I am sure I put this pump in with the lever pointing up which was the same as the orignal (non-glass bowl type). I would also think it wouldn't pull the gas into the bowl if it was inserted the wrong direction. That's why I'm leaning towards it being defective as it is 1/2 doing it's job!!
If it is found to be failing to blow air out ont he outlet side, I'm going to try the $20 NAPA version as a test.
