The most important rule in working on vehicles is NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING. Just because something is new doesnt mean it cant be bad. I would have the batt load tested and make sure it is fully charged. It could be the bushing is worn in your drive end and letting the armerature drag on the pole shoes. Is your cables heavy enough that you are using? A starter should be at full speed and power the second you hook it up.
