The retainer off the other trans. should work. Looking inside won,t tell you much. The past performance is the best thing to go by. If it doesn,t jump out of gear & isn,t noisey in the lower gears & the syncros work OK it should be all right. If you have to replace the rear seal you will need a large socket for the rear flange.
