The clutch bearing cover....should be clutch gear bearing retainer, part no 22 on page7-17 of the 48-51 chevrolet truck shop manual. This is the second one I have seen and both came out of a 2 ton. I guess driving around in hay fields and wheat fields, over ruts and ditches? Still, if the 4 bolts were tight, it shouldn't be stressed in that area. I have another transmission, one that jumps out of third with a serviceable replacement retainer. Maybe I wouldn't have to overhaul it, Maybe I could pull the top andlook inside, but what am I seeing and what am I looking for? I see a gasket set isn't much for this model transmission. I did also plan to upgrade with the emergency brake off a '53 GMC fire truck, although I may have to shorten the driveshaft.
