I am guessing that your transmission is a SM-420. I have linked the Novak site for you to look at. These are pretty tough units, and simple too. I have no clue what it would cost to have a professional shop rebuild it, but I will bet it would be enough to give you a coronary infarction!
Whatever you do, I would stay away from AMMCO type places. Find a small owner/operator shop that might do trucks or off road jeeps.
If the service manager has a purple Mohawk, a nose ring and a stud in his tongue, steer clear of the joint!
