..... I have used several kinds in my cabinet. I usually keep a bag of glass beads, a bucket of plastic media, and some fine and medium sand.
For "most" of what I do I use the fine sand. It does a good job on my stuff and its cheap. A 50 lb bag is $3.28.

I buy mine and it is actually blasting sand from a local concrete mixing place. Its all sized and flows good in my system. I have a bag of the Black Beauty Pete mentioned from tractor supply but it cost almost $9 a bag...but I only use it on really bad rusty stuff.
