If gas runs out the shaft it is flooding. Although I prefer the Q-jet the Edel. is a good carb. Also a lot depends on the manifold. The Carter is a squarbore & the Q-jet is a speadbore. Most basic performance aftermarket manifolds are set up for both. Some manifolds need an adapter to change between the 2 different type carbs. Q-jets are Rochester carbs. although Carter built some of them for them.
