If you change the thickness of the thrust plate, aren't you going to mess up the end play on the camshaft? I seem to remember there's a stepped-down area on the cam gear that prevents the gear from being pressed too far onto the cam and locking up the thrust plate. I could be mistaken, however. Ive been working with a Ford 302 V-8 lately, and a couple of stovebolts, and they've both got cam thrust plates. I know for sure the thrust plate on the Ford also sets the timing chain alignment and camshaft end play.
