Update: (after running out of money, and taking some time off)
Hooked up the hose to the fitting for the windshield wipers on the intake, and installed a new vented oil cap, and...(drumroll).....it still leaks from the front and rear!
I'm thinking I didn't get the rope seal in right, and that the timing plate gasket is leaking. Now the fun of dropping the pan and pulling the rad and everything begins!
Any sort of concensus on the rop v. neoprene question?
Also, it's been a few years since I assembled the motor, do I need to pull out the camshaft to replace the timing plate gasket?
Oh boy. I guess there are worse places to be than under a 59 Apache in a friends clean shop!
