I've honed out cylinders before like crenwelge suggests. Many of the worst pits seem to be in the center where the cup seals don't ride, so if you are careful and pay attention it works pretty good. When I do mine I try to stay within 5-7 thou. I think you can go to 10 thou safely, but I try to keep it down to a minumum.

Resleeving is a good idea though.
