You have installed a passenger car 4spd in your truck? Which one?
Most of of the 4spds mount the shift on the tail shaft. On my 63 C20 the A883 shifter comes up on the left side of the hump about 6 inches in front of the seat. The shifter mounts just behind trans case on the tail shaft.
