My 50 3100 with 3-speed and stock rear end has a loud whine when I take my foot completely off the gas at 30 mph or higher. If I put the clutch in, the whine stops. When I restored the truck I took the carrier assembly completely out to clean things up. When I reinstalled it I used a dial indicator to set the lash according the shop manual. Is it likely that I did something wrong adjusting the carrier bearings? Or could this whine be caused by incorrect shimming of the pinion? The shop manual shows a special angled tool for reaching into the housing to measure the clearance, but I had no idea where I would ever find one of those so I didn't check it. This truck goes into an auction in August, so I need to get this fixed. Help!!
