Hey John, welcome to the bolt.I do believe they are insert bearings. The chevy engines were babbited. The engine ID is stamped on a flat pad just behind the distributor. The first 3 didgits of that number is the engine size..
sound like you have a 41-46 truck.
I have a 45 GMC with a 248 engine.
