John, as mentioned, the GMC engine will have the engine size dictated by the first three numbers on the pad behind the distributor. If its a Chevy engine in a GMC, youll have to go by the block casting numbers down by the fuel pump. Chevy switched to the inserts after 1953. GMC had inserts from at least 1941, which is where my knowledge of them stops.
