I have a 61 1/2 ton with a 283. Shortly after bringing it home, I adjusted the valves, and it sounded a whole lot better, no more tap tap tap. Now, only 2 months later, it sounds like it needs to be done again. The motor has a distinct tapping sound, especially after it's been warmed up pretty good. This is what it sounded like before. Do these old engines really have to be tuned that frequently? Or maybe there's something worn in there that I will need to replace?
