That is what I did.
You are saying that you can not get the socket (only the socket) on the bolt? Then you can worm the knuckle w/extension onto the socket. It probably won't snap on but will work.
Can you get a box wrench on the bolt? Then use some sort of dowel or bar on it - to pop it with a hammer?
Once the bolt is loose you can think of another way to get it off.
But it seems to me I used sockets. I know I got the clutch & bell housing off.
